This winter, a number of SCC staff as well as Carers we have spoken to, have lost someone close to them. And one of the most common topics is how unprepared people felt.

At SCC we very much feel: Knowledge is power and it's good to talk!

Caring for someone during their last period of life, dealing with the emotions and practicalities before and after a loved one dies, or having the time and information to plan for ourselves, can be tough - so let's talk.

There are some aspects of caring and organising end of life care which can be made easier. Having the time and knowledge to consider options before they happen helps us be more prepared; and often those topics which feel taboo, relieve a whole heap of stress once they're out in the open.

And what about thinking, talking and planning wishes for ourselves, saving our loved ones as much stress as possible.

For the second year we are running a 'Let's talk about dying day'. The day is split into different themes, so you may wish to attend the whole day, with time to talk with each other and professionals in between, or attend certain topics which you feel would be useful.

Guest speakers will cover: end of life care options; Wills and funeral planning and emotional support surrounding grief, bereavement, and discussing what support is available and how to handle difficult times and difficult topics.
